Job Description

Shipping and Logistics Manager Location Lenexa, KS : POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the logistics department in addition to managing all aspects of freight spend within the Husqvarna Construction Products business within North America. This position will also develop and implement process improvements, manage daily freight claims and support compliance needs for international shipments. This role is critical for driving an overall reduction in freight spend as a percentage of total sales through enhanced reporting and development of freight policies. RESPONSIBILITIES Managerial Activities (40%)
  • Oversee the daily activities of the Logistics, Special Accounts & Shipping departments
  • Provide guidance to staff when unique circumstances arise. Act as a decision maker on issues that need to be elevated to a higher level
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide regular performance feedback and development opportunities to the team
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook
  • Act as a change agent/lead in support of company initiatives & process improvements
  • Ensure teams are meeting all KPIs and Service Level Agreements.
  • Utilize staff to maximize productivity as needed
  • Strategic Planning & Development (40%)
    • Transportation and cost reduction opportunity analysis. Plan and manage logistics/freight spend while implementing cost analysis measures
    • Establish and communicate key metrics that drive operational improvements in outbound freight spend and recovery across Construction Products division
    • Coordinate project implementation for transportation and logistics cost reduction opportunities. Plan and implement long term projects using Transportation Management System (TMS).
    • Act as primary contact on discussions and negotiations with 3rd party freight providers to drive improvements in services and reductions in annual spend
    • Adhere to established procedures and policies, and make recommendations for improving or implementing policies to control air freight, expedite fees, and other freight expenditures
    • Ensure that all policies, procedures and controls are followed and that controls are in place to support shipping compliance and requirements for dangerous goods
    • Assist in gathering transportation data to be used in weekly and monthly transportation KPI's
    • Provide assistance with special projects, as required
    Operational Support (20%)
    • Provide daily support to Customer Service and Sales teams on expediting and tracking inbound product shipments to improve delivery commitments to customers
    • Develop and maintain SOP (Standard Operation Procedures)
    • Communicate service issues to DC staff and Customer Service, including but not limited to on-time performance or service disruption
    • Ensure that products are shipped in the most timely and efficient manner according to Husqvarna policies and procedures
    • Assist with freight claims and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) response processes from initiation, filing and collection. The CRM items need to be addressed, researched and resolved in a timely manner.
    • Resolve transportation issues for delivery requirements. Work with customer service and sales to ensure timely shipping and prioritization of orders/shipments.
    • Answer questions regarding transportation from customer service, plant, sales and warehouse staff

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor's Degree Business required or equivalent work experience
    • At least 2 years of experience in logistics and/or transportation, including full truckload (FTL), less than full truckload (LTL), air small package and ocean transportation
    • At least 3 years of previous managerial experience

    • Working between a warehouse and office environment
    • Travel up to 10-15% (primarily by air)
    • Heavy PC use

    • Fast paced warehouse environment
