The Opportunity

As Associate Electrical Engineering Specialist , you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop design change packages for operating nuclear plant facilities, and deliver solutions for a more sustainable future.
  • Develop electrical drawing deliverables including :
    • One line and three line diagrams
    • Electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics and wiring diagrams
    • Power cable sizing and cable schedules
    • Complex engineering calculations such as:  load flow, short circuit, motor starting (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), protective relay settings, battery and charger sizing
    • Schematics, interconnection diagrams and equipment layouts
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
  • Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients and provide support during construction
  • Extensively use Microsoft Office business systems such as ProjectWise, electrical engineering software, such as ETAP and Computer Aided Drafting Tools, such as AutoCAD to view and manipulate engineering drawing files

This candidate must be located or willing to relocate to our  Regional Office in Ann Arbor, MI. As this position supports the global nuclear program at Black & Veatch, any potential offer will be conditional on the individual being able to satisfy all requirements, including  U.S. citizenship requirements , outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR 810 .

Key Responsibilities

  • Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and BV policies and procedures.
  • Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate.
  • Continues developing and can independently apply knowledge.
  • Complies with BV quality program relative to assigned tasks.
  • Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepares a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables.
  • Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
  • Prepares increasingly complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • May recognize, define and resolve problems within assigned area.
  • May provide direction and guidance to others.
  • Assigns tasks to develop entry level professionals and interns.
  • Coordinates with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects. Interacts as needed with other disciplines on details of design work.
  • Works to understand external client's interest and drivers through regular interaction and communication. Also focuses on needs of internal clients and project leadership.
  • May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
  • Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nuclear Power Plant Facility Design experience, or infrastructure power distribution design experience for similar power generating facilities (i.e. Power Plants, Industrial Plants, Manufacturing Plants

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or Sciences preferred; or any other degree, specialized training, or experience, that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
